If you find yourself with a lot of apples on your hands, especially ones that are starting to get over-ripe, you definitely need to make this. Since I “juice” a lot of other fruits using my blender, I knew I could do the same with apples. No need to have an apple press of any kind. It takes no time at all and is totally no-fuss. It tastes like autumn in a glass. If you get apples from a friend or neighbour or you happen to have you own apple tree, then this cider is free! Even if you purchase the apples the cost will be considerably less than apple cider you purchase, plus theres no preservatives or additives. All you need to make it is: 1-a high powered blender 2-a nut milk bag or fine mesh strainer 3)an apple corer. Oh and guess what you don’t even need to peel the apples (the peel is full of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and dietary fibre). The peel is also loaded with quercetin, a powerful antioxidant and one that is shown to support cardiovascular health and help regulate histamine levels. Oh and don’t worry, it is no waste, as the pulp that is left after you strain out the cider can be added to smoothies or porridge (hot cereal) or yogurt. As for the cider, it is wonderful as is, chilled or heated, in baking or in mixed drinks.

Core your apples and chop into large chunks. Add apples to a high speed blender at least 1/2 way up to the max fill line of your blender container. Using your blender “tamper” to to push down the apples as you blend on high speed. If you do not have a “tamper” tool just stop blender and use a spatula to push down the apples and resume blending. Blend for 1-2 minutes or until you have a “mush” that is the consistency of apple sauce.
Line a container with a nut milk bag or doubled up cheese cloth (or use a fine mesh strainer) to strain the juice out of the mixture. Squeeze gently to push through as much of the cider as possible. Store in a glass jar for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 8 months.
