Smoothies don't need to be made with expensive ingredients. You can make them and make them beautiful with seasonal local ingredients. The star of this smoothie is local plums that I picked from an neighbours yard in the summer. I simply cut them in half, pitted them and froze them just like that. I used about 7 halves for this smoothie. Beets are loaded with nutrients and are a great natural energy booster. The fresh ginger cinnamon and cloves add a lovely spicy note that pairs well with the plums. This smoothie is also a great source of fibre. In the winter months I eat fruit exclusively in smoothie form. Even though this smoothie is sweetened with dates(very high in fibre) if it's not quite sweet enough for you, feel free to add a sploosh of maple syrup, grape nectar or local raw honey. I didn't have any non dairy milk pre-made or in the pantry so I used Westpoint Naturals Powdered Coconut Milk(add water) for this. It is a great non dairy beverage alternative, so a perfect pantry staple in my opinion. This recipe will make 2-3 servings which can be kept in the refrigerator for the next day. I like to use some of my smoothie in smoothie/porrige bowls.Simply pour some of the smoothie over your hot porridge as you would milk.
