I've always been a beet freak, even as a little girl, I loved beets. Beets are very good for our bodies, as they are full of fibre, vitamin C, folate and nitrates which are important for heart health, energy and athletic performance. This is a way of getting the goodness of beets into a smoothie. You'll even be able to get non beet lovers, of which my husband is one, to enjoy this smoothie. This recipe makes 2-3 servings. I always make extra and put it into a mason jar in the refrigerator for the next day. It makes a perfect grab n go breakfast. You can make this with peeled and grated beetroot or just peel and chop one medium beet. I am not a fan of protein powders and personally think they are mostly unnecessary. I prefer using whole sources of protein such as hemp hearts or chia seeds in my smoothies.

Pit the dates and then place all of the ingredients in a high powered blender and whir for at least 2 minutes or until you have a smooth mixture, free of any lumps. Store extra smoothie in glass jars with a lid in the refrigerator for the next day.
